You, Your Small Business, and AI: 5 Minutes into the Future.

Forecasts for 2026-2028

For this blog I listened to many experts’ forecasts for the next 3 years on the subject. Then I curated the predictions of:

Emad Mostaque; AI and blockchain technology expert. As the founder and CEO of Stability AI, he has pushed progress in decentralized AI models.

Geoffrey Hinton; a computer scientist and cognitive psychologist, known for his work on AI neural networks since the 1980’s  which earned him the title "the Godfather of AI".

Yuval Harari; military historian and public intellectual.

Mo Gawdat; former Google X executive and prominent voice on AI, focusing on its transformative potential, ethical implications, and how humanity can align with AI for a better future.

 The predictions for

2026:

The year of the multi agent teams: the shift will move from simple prompt-based AI to sophisticated "agentic" AI systems that can plan, reason, and execute complex, multi-step tasks autonomously with minimal human input, using multi models, text plus audio and video.

AI will begin to rapidly improve itself, getting better at reasoning. (And also getting better at deceiving) Will be very good at predicting (even the weather) Chain-of-thought reasoning will be developed using reinforcement learning, without using humans.

Any cognitive job can potentially be twinned by AI by reading everything you have created in the company, every single mistake you have made and every output you’ve done and then creating a virtual twin of you that can be communicated with on whatsapp, telephone and zoom; simulating your voice and mannerisms and then ultimately … replace you.

Human intelligence will be made irrelevant.

Sales, marketing, distribution, and social media will be AI agents. In coding the language will be English.

Agrarian societies will not change much, but in cities there will be more polarization and social unrest— people fearing a future they don’t understand. Before the cost of services comes down, labour markets will be severely affected.

Graduates will find it hard to find funding for their studies and it will be hard to find jobs.

People will stop spending. Taxes go down.

On a psychological level we will not connect with others on a deep level anymore and will start to lose our understanding of human emotions, especially empathy.

The age of artificial connection and simulated intimacy will accelerate— our social lives will continue to be designed by engineers with limited understanding of human psychology and optimised for metrics: screentime, number of clicks, frequency of interaction, but no quality or depth of human connection and mutual understanding.

But: the future is now

The window of opportunity to have a say in what our future will look like, will be now.

Mo Gawdat emphasizes that the true danger is not malicious AI, but humanity's misuse of the technology and lack of preparation. He believes the current capitalist system, which prioritizes profit over people, will concentrate power in the hands of a few who own the AI, potentially creating a "digital-feudal society".

Emad Mostaque advocates for the development of a decentralized, open-source "Intelligent Internet" infrastructure to ensure AI is pro-humanity and accessible to everyone, potentially through a model of "Universal Basic AI" (UBAI), as a potential solution to the economic disruption.

Geoffrey Hinton suggests that chatbots should be checked and properly tested.

Yuval Harari wants to know who will be controlling the narrative in disasters and advocates for AI and robots to be banned from simulating humans.

Every expert is calling for regulation, containment and transparency.

 Last expert standing:

Physical work, data centre workers, politicians, the greatest intellects, human authenticity, taste makers, housing, human empathic support.

2027

 No hiring will take place.

Time of the first generation robots that can do physical jobs better and very much cheaper. A new type of economic system is emerging. We will be watching a collapsing paradigm.

Heavy security for AI leaders because of civil unrest. In cities there will be more polarization and violence.

You will have a Grok lawyer, accountant and doctor whom you can talk to and who can go through your documents and tests. AI-radiologists will be able to give you better and more comprehensive diagnoses, detecting all cancers in stage one.

2028

The full stack of remote jobs will be AI-ed at a minimal cost, and doing a better job than humans. The American dream and the Protestant work ethic will be gone.

Self driving cars, self driving companies, self driving education and self driving economies.

Conclusion:

The time to make a difference is right now. We still have a short moment of autonomy to decide and build what comes next. It is up to us.
